I agree that the peer review process is maintained as manual because of theincreased possibility of tampering when manuscripts are done digitally (Kelly, Sadeghieh, &Adeli, 2014). Electronic copies of documents can be intercepted and edited before they aredelivered, this can interfere with the process of peer review and endanger the values of scientificcommunication. Another rationale, as noted by Amanda, is that the process has traditionally beenachieved through the post and this has yet to prevent critical issues.
